Hawaiian Airlines reported a 6% increase in revenue traffic miles, "traffic", to 1.37 billion for the month of September 2017. Year-to-date, traffic is up 5.5 percent to 12.19 billion through September on Hawaiian.
In September, Hawaiian Airllines transported 913,488 passengers, an increase of 3.4 percent versus last year for the same period. Year-to-date, passenger counts are up 3.3 percent at 8.6 million.
Another important statistic is "load factor"ʻ or percentage of seating filled. In September of this year the load factor was 86.6 percent which reflected a 1.6 percent increase versus September 2016. Year-to-date through September, the load factor is up 2.1 percent at 85.8 percent.ʻ
It is very apparent that tourism is remaining strong to the Aloha State. Recently, Southwest Airlines indicated that it will be attempting to enter the Hawaii air market in 2018. In addition, another low cost airline, Scoot, is working to add service by the end of this year. Scoot is a Singapore-based carrier that is part of the Singapore Airline Group. The added service originating from Singapore is planned to have a stopover in Osaka, Japan.
